Bethune-Cookman Women’s Basketball student-athlete D’Shantae Edwards has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Impact Player of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday, Dec. 5, from the league office in Birmingham, Alabama.
Edwards, a 5-foot-7 sophomore guard from Dallastown, Pennsylvania, was instrumental in Bethune-Cookman’s lone game last week away to Florida International.
The Dallastown Area High product registered a career-high 18 points and season-best six steals as the Wildcats fell late to the Panthers. Edwards scored seven of BCU’s nine points in a run that saw the Cats erase a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter. In all, she scored 11 points in the frame, allowing the Cats a 51-49 lead with one minute remaining.
On the season, Edwards is averaging 6.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, as well as owning a team second-most 10 steals.
Alongside Edwards as Co-Impact Player of the Week was Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Kaila Walker. Meanwhile, UAPB teammate Zaay Green was tabbed SWAC Player of the Week.
Bethune-Cookman returns to the hardwood Saturday, Dec. 9, when the Cats host Warner (Fla.) to Richard V. Moore Gymnasium at 2 p.m.
